Gary Claude Martin

Gary Claude Martin, 72, of Honesdale, died unexpectedly on Friday, October 24, 2025 following an accident in a place he loved dearly. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Debbie. The high school sweethearts were married on April 14, 1973. Gary and Debbie's love was like no other, and everyone could see that.

Born on June 22, 1953 in Honesdale, he was the son of the late Harold Sr. and Arline (Swingle) Martin. For many years, Gary worked in construction, blacktopping, and painted countless cars and tractors. Recently he has been employed at Camp Bryn Mawr mowing the grass and landscaping.

Gary's greatest joy was found in the faces of those he loved most- his wife, children, their spouses, and his grandchildren. He built a life rooted in love- a home that was filled with laughter, memories, and the warmth of his presence. He cherished every moment with his family, it didn't matter what they were doing, as long as they were together. He had a passion for the outdoors, spending countless hours hunting and fishing with his family. Known affectionately as the "Mayor of Girdland." Gary had a friendly disposition and an unwavering willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need. A true jack of all trades, he could fix almost anything and was always willing to help his friends and neighbors.

His love for his family knew no bounds, and he poured his heart into every moment shared, leaving behind a legacy of unconditional love and devotion.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Mindy Bresset and husband Chris, Gary Martin Jr. and wife Crystal and Mandy Altemier and husband Ryan all of Honesdale; his grandchildren, Jonathon Bresset and wife Amaris, Matthew Bresset and companion Summer, Gavin Bresset and companion Cianna, Alysa and Tim Martin, Mason, Jaxon and Logan Altemier, great granddaughter, Kinsey Bresset. Also surviving are brothers, Robert Martin and wife Diane, James Martin and wife Fran, John Martin and wife Kim all of Honesdale and Edward Martin and wife Dani of NC; his sister, Nancy Opett of FL; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his Grandson Brayden Altemier, and Brothers Harold Jr. and David Martin.

Friends may visit Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Thursday, October 30th, 4 to 7. Private services will be held at the convenience of his family
