Gary Dean Massingill, 70, passed away on March 28, 2026, on his birthday.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Murphree Cemetery in Evant.

Gary was born on March 28, 1956, to the late Mahlon “Bud” Massingill Sr. and Dixie Ruth Hopson Massingill and grew up in Everman, Texas. He lived a life marked by kindness, generosity, and a genuine love for people. He never met a stranger—only friends he hadn’t yet gotten to know. His sunny disposition and easygoing nature made him a joy to be around. He was known for his generous spirit and would gladly give the shirt off his back or help anyone in need without hesitation. He also had a particular interest in collecting knives and firearms, a hobby he greatly enjoyed over the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mahlon “Bud” Massingill Sr. and Dixie Ruth Hopson.

Gary is survived by his brother, Mahlon Massingill Jr. and wife Alicia of Godley, Texas; his nephew, Trey Massingill and wife Shawn of Cleburne, Texas; and his niece, Laurel Bartlett and husband Scott of Godley, Texas. He also leaves behind his beloved great-nephews, Tanner Massingill, Kolby Bartlett, and Maddox Bartlett; his great-niece, Maycie Massingill; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Gary’s memory to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, an organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by mental health conditions.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of Ridge View Nursing Home and Texas Health in Cleburne for the care, compassion, and support shown to Gary during his time in their care.

Gary’s life reflected warmth, laughter, and selflessness. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
