Gary Michael "Shaker" Mawyer, Sr., 68, of Fishersville, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at his home. He was born May 27, 1954 in Albemarle County, Virginia the son of Francis Lee Mawyer and Clara Jane Johnson Mawyer.
Gary attended Wilson Memorial High School and was a retired truck driver with Crosby Trucking. He enjoyed fishing.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Leslie Renee Mawyer; his son, Gary Dustin Mawyer; his brother, Francis Lee Mawyer, Jr.; his grandson, Nolan Grant Hinson and a number of aunts and uncles.
In addition to his parents he is survived by his wife, Lisa Mawyer; his children, Frankie and Tina Mawyer of Stuarts Draft, Tonia Strickler and her fiancé, Mikey of Waynesboro, Nikki and Denny Ivany of Waynesboro, Michael Mawyer and girlfriend, Crystal of Crimora and Travis and Cheri Mawyer of Staunton; his step-children, Latesha and Rico Waller of Waynesboro, April and Lance Brooks of Fishersville and Jay Critzer of Staunton; his brother, Jimmy Mawyer of Crimora and his two sisters, Donna Lowe of Staunton and Adena George of Stanardsville; his grandchildren, Brittany Bennett, Ashleigh Strickler, Chris Strickler, Seth Ivany, Dennis Ivany, Dakota Hewitt, Kane Stinnett, Isiah Mawyer, Jaedyn Holmes, J'Khyri Perkins, Mateah Mawyer, Aiden Hinson, Brianna Mawyer, Anthony Mawyer, Katie Hartless, Ethan Smith, Bella Smith, Heaven Waller, Jayveon Mason, Shayann Harris and Ashlyn Critzer; his great-grandchildren, Karmen, Cheyenne, Aria, Lola, Skyler, Breckon, Emmy, Cameron, Hunter, Ryder, Remington, Sincere and a Baby to be. Additionally he is survived by a special friend, Gary Nelson and cousins, Dwight Hensley, Wayne Campbell and Steven Painter, all the many children he raised and his Pet Companions, "Princess" and "Snowball".
The family would like to offer special thanks to granddaughter, Brittany, for taking time off from work to take Gary to appointments and for talking with her grandfather about things. Most of all, Brittany, thank you for the affection and love that you showed him. The family also offers a special thanks to daughter-in-law, Tina, for the patience and the love you showed Gary.
The family extends special appreciation to Augusta Health - Hospice of the Shenandoah and UVA Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center for the care they provided to Gary.
A Celebration of his Life will be planned for a future date.
