Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cornejo Funeral Home & Crematory - Wellington on Oct. 28, 2025.
Gary Lee Myrick of Larned, Kansas, passed away on October 26, 2025. He was born on June 13, 1940, in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, to Fred M. and Lenora L. (Brown) Myrick.
Gary grew up in Sand Springs alongside his brother, Owen and parents. He was drafted in 1960 and proudly served the U.S. Army and Army Reserves for six years, being stationed in Hawaii for two years.
Upon returning home, he met the love of his life, Darlene Harnar, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The two were married on February 16, 1963, and built a life together filled with love, adventure, laughter, and family.
Known for his generosity, quick wit, and gift for storytelling, Gary never knew a stranger. He could make anyone laugh and had a way of making everyone feel included. His streak of stubbornness was part of his charm, and his stories were the highlight of many gatherings. He was deeply devoted to his wife and family, finding his greatest joy in spoiling Darlene, his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He beamed with pride when talking about them and never missed an opportunity to share their accomplishments with others.
Gary was a skilled welder who worked for various factories in Tulsa before joining Kansas-Nebraska Gas Company and then later on, KPL/ONEOK. His career took him and his family on many adventures, including moves to Riverton, Wyoming and several Kansas communities. After retiring from ONEOK in 2002, Gary spent several years working as a contractor and pipeline inspector, including time with the Keystone Pipeline project, before fully retiring.
An avid fisherman, Gary especially loved his time at Milford Lake and visiting with "the guys" at Sponges shed in Solomon. He enjoyed traveling and finding off the road, hidden-gem restaurants to try.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Owen Myrick; and most recently, his beloved wife of 62 years, Darlene Myrick.
He is survived by three sons: Michael (Johanna) Myrick, Rick (Susan) Myrick, and Tony (Booja) Myrick; six grandchildren: Jeremy (Allison) Myrick, Kathleen (Tad) Remy, Erin (Jason) Koelsch, Cullen Myrick, Lynzi Myrick, and Daniel Myrick; and ten great-grandchildren: Hannah Jo Remy, Landon Remy, Graylynn Myrick, Brecken Koelsch, Teagan Myrick, Avery Remy, Chloe Remy, Baker Myrick, Owen Koelsch, and Sutton Myrick.
Gary will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Celebration of Life honoring both Gary and Darlene will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 1:00–3:00 p.m. at Glory Be, 623 Broadway, Larned, KS. A light luncheon will be served throughout.
Memorials are suggested to Diversicare of Larned, where Gary and Darlene received care, love, and compassion over the past two years.
