Gary Nix Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hilliard Funeral Home, Fairway Crematory & Memorial Gardens - Van on Jan. 28, 2026.
Gary Lynn Nix, born February 27, 1947, passed away on January 23rd, 2026, leaving behind a family who loved him deeply and will carry his memory with them always.

Gary was the son of Grace Evelyn Nix and Guy Nix, and he grew up surrounded by a large family that shaped the man he became. He was one of six children, with brothers Harold Wayne Nix, Glenn Nix, Guy Marlon Nix, and Danny Joe Nix, and sister Jeannie Pollan.

He was preceded in death by his mother, his father, and three siblings.

Gary is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Sandra Nix; their two children, Kelli Parker and Jonathan Nix and wife, Norma; and adopted bonus son, Jason Nance. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Slade McFarland, Cain Parker, Victoria Nix Foster and husband, Kody, Isabella Nix, and Sophia Nix, as well as four great-grandchildren and an abundance of nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.

To those who knew Gary best, he was more than a husband, father, grandfather, and brother-he was a steady presence. He was someone you could depend on, someone who showed love through loyalty, time, and simply being there when it mattered. His family meant everything to him, and his legacy lives on through the many lives he touched.

Gary proudly served his country as a veteran of the Vietnam War, a commitment that reflected the strength, determination, and loyalty he carried throughout his life.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to his lifelong friend, Larry McCurdy, for the care, friendship, and support shown to Gary and the family through the years. Special thanks also to Da'Nae Hooks and Kensi Ramey for their friendship with Gary, as well as the nursing care they provided. Thank you, Veteran Affairs, Hospice, and Chaplain Mark Hendrick, for all that you did as well.

Though words can never fully capture the loss of someone so loved, the family takes comfort in the memories shared, the bonds that remain, and the lasting mark Gary Lynn Nix leaves behind. While our hearts grieve his absence, our faith reminds us this is not goodbye forever, and we find peace in knowing he is now resting in the arms of the Lord until we are reunited again.

Gary and I grew up together in the Jenkins community near Daingerfield, and some of my favorite memories are from the time we spent together as kids. He was a true friend, always smiling and full of joy. My heart goes out to his family during this difficult time. He will always be remembered and deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
