1944-2025
Gary Kellogg Northrop, 80, of Southbury, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2025, at Danbury Hospital after battling a long term illness.
Born on September 16, 1944, in Bridgeport, CT, Gary was one of five children. Gary proudly served in the United States Army and was stationed at West Point. After the army and a few years working in the field of pumps and wells, he went on to own and operate Gary's Pump Service. Gary spent over 50 years of his life as a dedicated business owner working in the greater Danbury area.
Gary was first and foremost a loving father and cherished the time he spent together with his children. In addition, Gary was known for his hard work, humor, curiosity, and generosity. Many that knew Gary knew him through his business. Gary was proud of the work that he did for his customers and enjoyed forming relationships with them. He was a man of many hobbies and had a great sense of adventure. He spoke most often about his love for piloting planes and boating on Lake Candlewood.
Gary is survived by his wife of 15 years, Cynthia Northrop; his brother Frank Northrop; his children, Patricia Northrop, Paul Northrop, Craig Northrop, and Heather Northrop; his grandchildren Danny, Jennifer, Rami, Rebecca, and Leilani; and three great-grandchildren. Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Dorothy Northrop, his brothers Edgar, John and Robert, and his daughter Rita.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Honan Funeral Home at 58 Main Street, Newtown, CT. All are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Gary's name.

Paul and I have been friends since we were kids and every weekend I was blessed enough to be treated as a family member and was invited over every weekend and on summer vacation trips and winter trips to the Catskills. Memories I will live with for ever. I will miss your sarcasm and sense of humor and your unconditional love to your children. Paul Craig and Heather had an amazing father.
