Gary Rocha Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ramsey Funeral Home & Crematorium on Sep. 5, 2024.
Gary Rocha, a beloved husband, brother, uncle, teacher, and friend, passed away on September 1, 2024, at the age of 67. Born on May 20, 1957, Gary was a man of many talents, known for his athleticism, musical gifts, and dedication to his family and faith.
From a young age, Gary excelled in sports. He played catcher throughout his youth and high school years, earning accolades for his skill and dedication. He was also a standout in Punt, Pass, and Kick competitions, winning awards across the state. Gary shared a deep passion for baseball with his father, Marcelino, and they bonded over their love for the Houston Astros, a team Gary followed closely throughout his life. Inspired by Lee Trevino's rise in the PGA, Gary developed a love for golf and became a skilled golfer, competing in tournaments throughout Texas. His golfing career was eventually cut short due to declining health, but his passion for the game endured.
Gary's love for music came from his mother, Netti, who played the alto saxophone in her father's orchestra. Encouraged by her, Gary began singing in school and church choirs as a child. His rich, resonant voice was a gift he shared generously, singing at countless weddings, parties, and funerals over the years.
After his golfing days, Gary found fulfillment in teaching. As a middle and junior high math teacher, he dedicated himself to shaping young minds. After retiring, he devoted the rest of his life to his faith and to spending time with his beloved great-nieces: Devlyn, Kennedy, Asylyn, Elizabeth Anne, Ransom, Andi, Vivienne, and Elianna.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Annette; his sisters Valerie and Alejandra (Luis); nieces Rene (Jared), Michelle (Andrew), Lori, Allison, and Karen; and his sister-in-law Brenda (George). He was preceded in death by his father Marcelino, mother Netti, and his brothers-in-law John and Albert.
Known for his charm, wit, and endless stories that could brighten any room, Gary will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

I'm so sorry to hear this news. Gary and I lost touch after his family moved but we reconnected this summer via comments on a Houston Astros Facebook page. He was such a great friend when I knew him at Andrews Elementary School and Pearce Junior High. I will always value the friendship we shared. I've uploaded a fifth grade picture. Gary is in the back row, second from the right. (I'm in the next row, second from the left.) Condolences to the family.

Hopefully this will come out well. I tried writing these many times. What Can I say except he was my best friend, biggest cheerleader, and always laughed and my jokes no matter how corny they were. this world has dimmed a little with his passing. However, I know that he will be waiting next to Saint Peter alongside my family waiting for me when it is my time to go home and be with the Lord Almighty. Miss you brother. Thanks for the good times but most of all thanks for these decades of love and for being my friend. I will be with you once my chores are done here.
Love you,
Matthew

I will always remember how lovely he sang at his mother's funeral. If I recall correctly, it was his mother's. Beautiful voice with so much feeling. Rip sweet cousin, no longer in pain, but in Heaven with his wonderful parents. May God carry him home in His arms. Prayers for his wife, sister and entire family.
