Gary Leroy Schmidt

Gary Schmidt, 78, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and loved ones. He obtained a bachelor's degree from St Cloud State University and remained a devoted Huskies fan. He then joined the Army Reserve for 6 years and was honorably discharged. He married the love of his life Vicky and together they had 3 children. Gary worked in the food distribution industry for 38 years, with 33 years dedicated to SuperValu, and was promoted to General Manager at the Fargo distribution center. He moved back to Monticello, MN following retirement with his wife Vicky to relax and enjoy lake life. He treasured his time at Lake Ida watching the wildlife, taking the family for boat rides, and teaching his grandsons to fish. He was also excited to have more time to go hunting with his friends/family (a true passion). They recently moved to a condo in Maple Grove, MN. Gary's caring personality will be deeply missed, along with the funny jokes and clever remarks that made us all laugh. Gary was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Lorraine. Gary is survived by his wife Vicky, children Todd, Jana (Joe), and Jill (Mike) and grandchildren Alex, Tyler and Lucas, brother Ron (Barb), niece Mary Beth, nephew Rob (Nicole) and many cousins. He was very proud of his family and adored spending time with his grandsons. Gary wanted a celebration of life be held in his honor. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 AM on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 with memorial service at 11 AM.
