Gary Schmidt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hedges-Scott-Millard Funeral Homes and Hedges Cemetery - Camdenton on Jan. 6, 2026.
Gary Schmidt, age 85, of Osage Beach, Missouri passed away unexpectedly on December 30, 2025. He was born on February 29, 1940 in Saint Louis, Missouri; a son of Walter M. and Majorie R. (Holtman) Schmidt. He was united in marriage to Mary Jo Harrison, and she preceded him in death in 2004.
Gary graduated from Cleveland High School in St. Louis and soon after joined the United States Air Force. He spent four years with the Air Force as a C130 Mechanic. After his time in the service, he worked for the US Army Corp of Engineers, where he retired early. He and Mary Jo relocated to the Lake of the Ozarks in 2002, where he loved the peaceful serenity of the lake. He spent time on his jet ski and enjoyed his breakfast at RJ's Family Restaurant each day. Gary was a gun enthusiast and enjoyed deer hunting when he was able. He had great sense of humor, and made so many laugh with his jokes.
He will be remembered as a friend to many, a surrogate grandfather to a few and a loving Father to his surviving daughter Elaine. He is also survived by his nephew Jay (Tina) Harrison, and their children Loren (Michael), Jessica (Michael), Blake and Andrea; and niece Michelle Simmons. In addition, he was loved like a "Grandpa" to Devin (Kumi) Stewart, Dalton Stewart, Gabriel (Myka) Stewart, and Andrew (Abbi) Felgate.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Jo, his parents, and is brother-in-law Charles E. Harrison.
Rest in Peace "Herman" we love you.
