Mr. Gary Mack Stapleton, age 68 of Willacoochee, Georgia, passed away early Sunday morning, January 7, 2024 at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia, following a recent illness. He was born Wednesday, July 20, 1955 in Douglas, Georgia to the late Harley Stapleton and the late Gloria McLean Stapleton. Mr. Stapleton was a hard working man who served our country for 28 years in the United States Army National Guard before retirement and then made a second career as a truck driver in the agriculture and timber industries where he worked for Pilgrim's Pride for 14 years. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 515 in Douglas, Georgia. In addition to his parents, Mr. Stapleton was preceded in death by a sister, Glenda S. Dial.
Mr. Stapleton is survived by his wife of 17 years: Darlene Davis Stapleton of Willacoochee, Georgia; 1 son: Gary Mack Stapleton, Jr. of Hazlehurst, Georgia; 3 step-children: Thomas (Hollie) Cox of Social Circle, Georgia, Justin (Jennifer) Jowers and Cody Jowers, both of Hazlehurst, Georgia; 4 grandchildren: Wyatt Stapleton and Riley Stapleton, both of Hazlehurst, Georgia, Holden Cox and Tucker Cox, both of Social Circle, Georgia; siblings: Horace (Ann) Stapleton of Douglas, Georgia, Eric Stapleton of Odom, Georgia, Noreen Stapleton of Douglas, Georgia, and Roger Stapleton of Willacoochee, Georgia; 2 sisters-in-law: Ginger (Dan) Wilkins of Willacoochee, Georgia and Trudy Carlisle of Naples, Florida. Numerous nieces, nephews and extended family also survive.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, January 10, 2024 from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Ricketson Funeral Home.
Funeral services for Mr. Stapleton will be held Thursday, January 11, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Ricketson Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Van McCall officiating. The interment will follow in Providence Cemetery.
Active Pallbearers for the service are: Shane Dial, Zach Toney, Daniel Miller, Kyle Borchers, Justin Jowers, Cody Jowers, Wyatt Stapleton and Riley Stapleton.
