Gary L. Steinhagen

1952 - 2025

Beloit, WI - Gary L. Steinhagen, 73, of Beloit, WI, entered the house of the Lord on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, after a prolonged illness. He was born July 14, 1952 in Beloit, WI, the son of Norval and Verbena "Bea" (Johnson) Steinhagen. Gary was a 1970 graduate of Beloit Memorial High School, and attended Milton College where he received his Bachelor's degree in 1975 in psychology. He married Mary Febry on September 24, 1977, at St. Judes Catholic Church in Beloit, WI. Gary was employed by Estes Express as a freight manager for over 40 years, retiring in 2019. He had a love for his family and always put them first. Gary and his family were very passionate about traveling and camping. He later in life enjoyed going on Caribbean cruises. These things made him the happiest. Gary loved watching trains and going to train museums. Gary also had a love for dogs and visiting national parks. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Mary; children, Brian Steinhagen and Lisa (Jason) Selck; grandsons, Charles and Harlan Hayes; granddaughter, Ella Lutterman; aunts and uncles; brothers- in- law and sisters-in-law, William "Bill" (Nancy) Febry, Theresa (Jay) Bellard and Ann (Jim) Schroeder; Robert Schuler; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Carol Ann Steinhagen and Gloria Schuler. Special thanks to Kristen Broderick and all the wonderful nursing staff and doctors at Beloit Memorial Hospital, and to his in-laws for the continuing support, love and prayers in his final days as this is a great loss to family and friends. A Funeral Service for Gary will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 21, 2025 at Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Rd., Beloit, WI. A visitation of remembrance will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service Sunday in the funeral home. A private burial will be held at Floral Lawns Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rock County Humane Society, UW Health American Family Children's Hospital, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
