Gary R. Stunes, age 67, of Huron, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025, at his home in Huron.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date at the Kuhler Funeral Home with burial in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Gary R. Stunes, the son of Millard and Florentine (Erpenbach) Stunes, was born on October 28, 1958, in Wessington Springs. The family made their home on a farm near Lake Mitchell where Gary attended elementary school and graduated from Mitchell High School.
Gary lived in Billings, Montana, and worked with his brother, Donald for a time before moving to Huron, South Dakota. Gary worked as a shift supervisor for Protective Coating Specialists in Huron for many years before his retirement.
Gary married Virginia Dickson on July 2, 1995 in Huron. Virginia passed away on August 27, 2016.
Gary enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Uptown League through the Huron Bowling Association. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. One of his most enjoyable activities was the yearly family get together at Lake Byron every Fourth of July to go fishing with his dad and brothers.
Grateful for having shared in Gary’s life are his brother, David (Vickie) Stunes of Hot Springs, SD; his step-daughter, Gina McMains of Odessa, MO; his step-son, Chris (Wanda) Homan of Colville, WA; his three nephews, Kevin, Kelly and Lonnie Stunes; and several cousins.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia; four brothers, Dennis, Rocky, Randall and Donald Stunes; and one nephew, Michael Stunes.
