Obituary of Gary Thomas Videtic
Gary Videtic
Gary Videtic, a lifelong resident of
Joliet, Illinois, passed away peacefully on February 15 at the age of 73, surrounded by his loved ones. He leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength, deep faith, and unwavering love for his family.
Born in Joliet to Joseph and Marie (nee Janes) Videtic, Gary was raised in the community he proudly called home. He spent much of his early years building houses alongside his father, learning the family trade and helping construct homes throughout the Joliet area.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Marie Videtic, and his brother, James (Jim) Videtic.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Rebecca Videtic; his nephews and niece, Brian Videtic (Ally), Dennis Videtic (Tina), and Tara Videtic; his great-nephews and great-niece, Dylan, Vaughn, and Carlee; his beloved aunts and uncle, Jean Lambert (nee Videtic) and Betty Bush (nee Janes), and his uncle, Johnny Janes; his cousins, Mike and Scott Lambert, Lorie, Jill, Jimmy, and Jackie Bush, Jeff, Jerry, John, and Maryann Janes, Jane Thoman, and Dave Horwath; as well as many extended family members and dear friends.
Gary shared a deep and steady bond with his mother, Marie. After his father's passing, they walked through life together - traveling often, spending winters in Arizona, playing cards, watching sports, and rarely missing a chance to gather with family. Marie's motto was "keep moving," and Gary embraced it fully, always ready for the next trip, the next game, or the next simple joy.
He loved a good card game, a little friendly competition, and never turned down a cookie. A devoted Chicago Cubs fan, he celebrated their victories and stood by them through every season. Gary was also the one everyone called when something needed fixing. Whether it was a car, a home repair, plumbing, woodworking, or simply a question about how something worked, Gary either knew the answer or would figure it out. Though a man of few words, his heart was unmistakably big. His love for his family ran deep, quiet, and steady - the kind of love that did not need to be loud to be felt.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to his caregivers over the past year, especially Joe and Brenton, whose kindness and friendship brought comfort and joy to Gary. He considered them true friends.
Gary's gentle spirit, loyalty to family, and love for life will be remembered always.
