Gary Dean Walker
November 30, 1948 – November 4, 2025
It is with love in our hearts and smiles through our tears that we celebrate the life of Gary Dean Walker, who passed away on November 4, 2025, after a courageous ten-year battle with Alzheimer's disease. Though the disease slowly took his memories, it never dimmed his gentle nature, his goofball sense of humor, or the joy he brought to everyone around him.
Born in Yakima, Washington, on November 30, 1948, Gary was known for his kindness, generosity, and laughter that could fill a room. For 33 years, Gary proudly wore the brown uniform of UPS, delivering far more than packages - he delivered friendship and good cheer on every doorstep. His 30-year safe driving record was a testament to his steady hand and dedication to his community, though most remember him for the jokes and smiles that came with every delivery.
Outside of work, Gary poured his heart into his passions. He loved golf, gardening, cycling, and basketball, and could often be found on the sidelines cheering on his kids and grandkids. He took great pride in his meticulously manicured lawn and garden, which bloomed as brightly as his laughter. A faithful member of St. John's Catholic Church, Gary lived his values quietly but steadfastly - through kindness, devotion, and a deep love for family.
Gary leaves behind a lifetime of love and memories cherished by his wife of 57 years, Karen Walker; his sons Jeff (Brandy) and Jason (Terri); his sister Yvonne Gralphs (George); brothers Terry (Trudy) and Rod Walker; and his grandchildren Zach (Kyla), Colby (Shawnii), Grace Walker, and Jordyn Young (Trevor). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and beloved pets who will forever miss his gentle heart - and his habit of sneaking them extra treats.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Irene Walker, and his in-laws, Felix and Alice Long, who surely welcomed him with open arms and maybe a good-natured teasing about taking his time getting there.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Bill Hinze, who was always there for Gary through the years; to his hospice care team, who comforted him with compassion during his final days; and to his tender and patient caregiver, Linda Tapia, whose kindness will never be forgotten.
As we remember Gary, we invite friends and family to share their stories and photos on his memorial page - to keep his spirit alive through the laughter and love he gave so freely. May his memory remind us all to find joy in the simple things, keep our lawns tidy, and never lose our sense of humor.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at 11:00am at St. John Catholic Church, Naches, WA, followed by a reception in the church hall.
