Gary Ellis Watson passed away peacefully on January 3, 2025, in Corpus Christi, Texas, at the age of 85. Born on April 23, 1939, in Kansas City, Missouri, Gary's life was marked by an adventurous spirit, a wise mind, and a creative heart.
Gary's passion for speed and mechanics led him to a thrilling career as a professional drag race car driver, where he was renowned for his skill behind the wheel of "The Paddywagon." His love for cars extended beyond the racetrack, as he built and owned a successful automotive parts business for 36 years. Gary's entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to his work were an inspiration to many. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Gary was a man of many interests. He was sports fisherman, avid hunter and a certified scuba diver.
Those who knew Gary will remember him as a man who lived life to the fullest. Gary's wisdom was a guiding light to his family; his life was a testament to the belief that with passion and determination, one can achieve one's dreams.
Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Evelyn Kay Watson, who has been his partner in life's journey for many wonderful years. His legacy continues through his son, Troy Dean Watson (Gary Watson Riemenschneider); stepdaughter, Kary Denise Gutierrez; seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Each of them carries a piece of Gary's adventurous spirit, wisdom, and creativity.
As we bid farewell to Gary, we celebrate a life well-lived. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the stories told by his family and friends and the countless lives he touched. Gary's journey on earth has come to a rest, but his spirit will continue to race on in the hearts of those who loved him. Gary Ellis Watson's life story is one of excitement, love, and legacy. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
