Gary Lynn Wheeler

Gary L. Wheeler was born on February 7, 1940 to Ralph and Ruby (Avery) Wheeler in Kalvesta, KS. Later on, the family moved from Kansas to Colorado. Gary attended school at the Smokey Hill School and later graduated from Burlington High-school in 1959. A few years later Gary was married and from this union two children were born, Dennis and Denise.

Gary worked hard whether it was his time for working at Safeway to running his own wholesale business or working for McArthur Implement; where he worked for 40 years before retiring.

After retirement Gary tinkered with small engines and lawn mowers. He, his son and granddaughter then got into garden tractor pulling which he greatly enjoyed.

Gary loved helping in the community and lending anyone a helping hand. To him his word and a handshake meant something. He was always looking for ways to give back. He was the definition of a giver. Whether it was helping out the first responders of Kit Carson County or his neighbor.

Gary passed away on November 28, 2025. Preceding him in death are his parents, his beloved dog Dawg.

Left to mourn his passing is his son Dennis (Kim) Wheeler of Burlington, CO. His daughter Denise (Gordon) Wheeler-Mandis of Burlington, CO. His beloved dog Duke. As well as a legacy of 8 grandchildren, 14, great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday December 9, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Burlington, CO.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday December 10, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at The First Christian Church in Burlington, CO with Burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Burlington, CO.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Gary Wheeler Memorial Fund in care of F&M Bank to be used for HOSA which is a non profit organization for Future Healthcare Professionals.
