Gary Willam White

Gary White, 83, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on January 2, 2025. Born in 1941 to Arlo and Margret White in Mankato, Minnesota, Gary spent his formative years in Ely, MN, where he helped his family build and run their cherished resort, White's Shig-Wak Lodge, on the Echo Trail.

In 1961, Gary married the love of his life, Barbara Lemke. Following their marriage, he proudly served in the United States Air Force.

Gary had an enduring passion for the great outdoors. An avid sailor and enthusiastic fisherman, he also enjoyed horseback riding and traveling. Upon retiring, he and Barbara embarked on a remarkable journey across the United States, fulfilling their dream of visiting all 50 states. Their shared love for adventure and exploration left them with countless memories and stories to cherish.

Gary's love and dedication to his family will live on through those he leaves behind. He is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara White; his three sons and their wives, Todd & Shaune White, Jeff & Leslie White, and Chad & Angela White; his seven grandchildren, Katie, Kelsey, Samantha, Sarah, Aaron, Jessica, and Casey; and his brother, Alan, and his wife, Marcy.

Gary will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, deep love for his family, and unwavering zest for life. The family will hold a celebration of his life in June, with details to be shared at a later date.

He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
