Gaston C. Hyde

Gaston C. Hyde, 96, of Poplar Bluff, MO passed away, Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. Mr. Hyde was born Aug. 21, 1917 in Gatewood, MO to the late Jesse T. and Rosa F. Henderson Hyde. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff and was a retired insurance salesman. Mr. Hyde was a veteran of the US Army, proudly serving as a Medic in the European Theater during WWII. For his service Mr. Hyde was awarded two Bronze Stars. He enjoyed spending time with his family, reading his Bible, playing music and fellowshipping with people. On July 2, 1968, he married Juanita Jewell Kearbey in Anderson, SC. She survives of the home. Other survivors include two children: Terence Hyde of White Plains, NY and Pamela S. Hyde of Santa Fe, NM; two stepchildren: Linda Masteller (Dr. Rod) of Frisco, TX and Sherry LaMunyon (Dana) of Enid, OK; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Edna Sorrell, of Newton, KS, Rowena Cota, of Crest Hill, IL and Glenna Hastings, of Mathis, TX; several nieces and nephews; his church family and a host of friends. Two brothers, Jay Hyde and Jackie Hyde, and four sisters, Florence Miller, Mildred Miller, Jessie Bennett and Betty Hyatt also preceded Mr. Hyde in death. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff with the funeral service following at 1:30 p.m. Dr. Rod Masteller and Dr. William Vail will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, MO.
