Gavin Scott Carter, 23, of Jacksonville, Florida died suddenly May 25, 2024 when, in a selfless act as a good samaritan, he stopped to render aid to a vehicle crash victim and was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver.
Gavin was born March 30, 2001 in Jacksonville, Florida. He was a remarkable, phenomenal, charismatic young man of many talents and accomplishments in his short life, which abruptly ended too soon to ever know what else he would have gone on to experience and achieve.
Gavin was a vibrant, bright light in his family and circle of friends. He was one of the happiest people you could ever meet. Smart, funny, charming, entertaining, fun, always had a smile and such a great laugh, upbeat, positive and an absolute joy to be around. He had a sweet soul, easygoing disposition, and lived his life to the fullest with a "no fear" attitude. He embraced every opportunity to enjoy all life had to offer.
Anyone who met Gavin loved Gavin. People were drawn to him immediately because of his infectious personality and zest for life. He always had a smile, a kind word, a sparkle in his eye, and a one-of-a-kind laugh that just let you know everything was going to be alright. He was always ready to offer a helping hand and had the "MacGyver" tenacity to figure anything out and see it through.
Gavin lead a full and active life, and grew up as a member of the Boy Scouts, along with his brother and cousins. He was also an accomplished athlete and excelled in all types of sports including gymnastics, trampoline, swimming, diving, surfing, baseball, track, running half marathons, and he became a champion pool player.
Never a dull moment, Gavin loved to spend time with family and friends. He was up for anything impromptu, especially outdoor activities, including day trips to Ginnie Springs, tubing on the Ichetucknee, vacations in the Florida Keys and California, and a special family trip to Lake Burton, Georgia which he hoped to visit again someday.
Gavin graduated from Wolfson High School in 2019. He was employed as an electrician for Snyder Air Conditioning, Plumbing & Electric and was a customer favorite. He had aspirations to start his own company someday.
Left to cherish his memory are his fianc e, Victoria Forbes, who was also his high school sweetheart; grandmother, Cynthia Carter-Ross, Jacksonville, FL, who lovingly raised Gavin; mother, Dawn Carter, Jacksonville, FL; brother, Gage Carter and his fianc e Halle Morrow, Jacksonville, FL; sister, Kendra Mongahan, Jacksonville, FL; maternal great-grandparents, Carol and Kenneth Tang, Atlantic Beach, FL; aunt, Chrystal Ransom, Jacksonville, FL; five cousins: Michael Stoneberger, Jacksonville, FL; Nathan Stoneberger, Jacksonville, FL; Zachary Wilcox (Carolina), Jacksonville, FL; Hayden Chalmers, Palm Coast, FL; Kendra Chalmers, Palm Coast, FL; great-aunts: Cherie Tang, Jacksonville, FL; Kara Chalmers, Palm Coast, FL; Katherine Tang-Wilcox, Jensen Beach, FL; and great-uncle and great-aunt, Christopher and BarbaraTang, Walnut Creek, CA.
Gavin also leaves countless dear friends with treasured memories and awesome stories.
Gavin had a love for animals and also leaves behind his rescue Husky, Shyla, and rescue kitty, Fat Daddy, who already miss him dearly.
Please honor Gavin's memory by sharing a smile, being kind to others, offering a helping hand, and living your best life.

My first memory of Gavin was not only holding the door at Snyder open for me, but making me feel welcome and proud to be a part of the team just by his kindness. We lost one of our own, and greatest, but will always honor his memory by passing his kindness for many generations to come. Thanks you, Gavin, for making the world a better place. You will be always be missed and forever in our hearts.
