Services for Gayland L. Pugh, 85, of Cleburne, will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Friday, March 29, 2024, at Calvary Baptist Church in Cleburne with Reverend Charles Payne and Reverend Brooks Monk officiating. Burial will follow in Squaw Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 P.M., Thursday, March 28, 2024 at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers are Clayton Pugh, Kerry Skiles, Mitchell Skiles, Chase Chick, Blaze Coonrod, and Zach Jones. Honorary pallbearers are Torren Coonrod and Zade Coonrod.
Gayland passed away Sunday, March 24, 2024 in Cleburne. He was born February 25, 1939 in Quanah, Texas to Coleman and Morene Early Pugh. Gayland married Alice Mae Halbert on June 7, 1958 in Irving, Texas. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Gayland proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He worked as a sound technician with over 30 years of service and a greeter for Walmart for 9 years after retirement. Gayland will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Alice Pugh of Cleburne; children, Connie Skiles and husband, Kerry of Nemo, Leta Pugh and husband, Clayton of Alvarado, and Gay Lynn Proffitt of Joshua; grandchildren, Jessica Chick and husband, Chase of Arlington, Mitchell Skiles of Nemo, Vanessa Coonrod and husband, Blaze of Glen Rose, and Stephanie Jones and husband, Zach of Edmond, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Torren Coonrod and Zade Coonrod.
Gayland was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Joseph Gayland Skiles in 1985; and twin great-granddaughters, Emily and Alison Jones in 2022.
