Gayle Harris, 84, of Leesburg, IN passed away at 11:10 a.m. on Monday, September 23, 2019 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Syracuse, IN. She was born on March 25, 1935 in Anderson, IN to Fay Newton & Dessie (Anderson) Kern.
She graduated in 1953 from Anderson High School, received her B.S. Degree in 1957 from Hanover College, and her Master’s Degree from Ball State. She was married on February 1, 1958 in Anderson, IN to Donald L. “Don” Harris who preceded her on February 1, 2018. She moved to Leesburg area in 1965 from Liberty, IN. She was a teacher for 41 years, having taught in Anderson, West Lafayette, Union County, and at North Webster Elementary for her final 35 years.
She was a member of North Webster Church of God & Phi Mu Sorority.
She is survived by:
Daughter – LeAnn Harris of Leesburg
3 Sons – O.V. Harris of North Webster, Tim (Minona) Harris of Warsaw, & Todd (Kristene) Harris of Warsaw
1 Granddaughter, 1 Step Granddaughter, 1 Step Grandson, & 2 Step Great Grandchildren
Sister-in-law –Nora Harris of Anderson
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother – Francis Kern.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at Owen Family Funeral Home, St. Rd. 13 & CR 500N, North Webster, IN. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Boyer officiating. Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. St. Rd 15, Warsaw, IN.
Preferred memorials may be given to the North Webster Public Library, P.O. Box 825, North Webster, IN 46555.
