Gaynell Grapp Obituary

Gaynell Jean Kerr Freneaux Grapp, our beloved mother, went to be with our Lord on April 6, 2022. Born Feb. 17, 1932, Gay was a native and longtime resident of Baton Rouge, LA. She graduated from Istrouma High school and went on to Louisiana State University as a Music Major. Gay loved to paint, read and travel. She enjoyed trips to New England, Scotland, France and Iceland. She moved from Baton Rouge, spending many years in Atlanta before retiring in Bay St. Louis, MS. She subsequently returned back to Baton Rouge to be near her family. She is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Brandy and Steve Christ, Kim and Garland Rodriguez, and Johnnie and D. J. Ponville. Additionally, 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by husbands, John Robert Freneaux, Jr. and Robert L. Grapp. Gay, also known as "The Grand Ya-Ya", was truly the matriarch of our big family. She was immeasurably loved. Per her request, a celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family wishes to extend their deepest appreciation for the excellent care and blessings provided by Church's Funeral Home, Golden Age Nursing Home, The Hospice of Baton Rouge and most especially to the amazing nurses and aides in The Butterfly Wing at the Baton Rouge General. Rest easy and fly high Mama.

So very sorry to hear of Gaynells's passing. My memories of her were mainly from my childhood. My mother, Clotilde fairchild was a cousin through the Kerr family. May she rest in peace.
