Geary "Steve" Steven Crask

Geary "Steve" Crask, 64, of Anchorage, Alaska, passed peacefully in his home on Monday August 14, 2023 following years of managing diabetes and kidney disease. Steve was a beloved partner, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Steve was born December 16, 1958 on the Chateauroux-D?ols Air Force Base in Chateauroux, France, the fourth of eight children of Alvey and Betty Crask. He spent his early years moving frequently due to his father's Air Force career and collected fond memories hunting, fishing, and wandering the desert burning tumbleweed with his many childhood friends. Steve's parents, four sisters, and surviving brother eventually settled in Angleton, Texas. He graduated from Angleton Highschool in 1977 and entered the Air Force on July 7, 1977 where he served as an Aerospace Ground Equipment Mechanic and made many life-long friends. Steve's Air Force career brought him to Anchorage where he resided for the remainder of his life.

Steve made friends everywhere he went and maintained many friendships from his time in the Air Force. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent his summers on the Kenai River with his fishing buddies and his slightly leaky green boat, which he enjoyed upgrading throughout the years. He and Vangie recently purchased an RV and enjoyed taking it out to campgrounds around the Anchorage area.

Steve was a fantastic storyteller and is remembered by his children for the colorful and humorous tales of the hijinks of his younger days which were often accompanied by his playful smirk. Steve cherished his children and grandchildren and, though he may not have always admitted it, loved his cats.

Many knew Steve as the owner and operator of Frontier Garage Door, which he and Vangie operated out of their home for many years. He was an extremely hard worker and provider for his family. Despite the hurdles with his health, Steve continued to work until his passing.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alvey Crask, his twin brothers, Terry and Gary Crask, his grandson Lucius Crask, and his dear friend of over 40 years, Timothy Ballard.

He is survived by his mother Betty Crask, his partner and mother of his children, Evangeline "Vangie" Wight, his son Geary Crask and his wife Josephine, his daughter Shaylie McCarthy and her husband Stephen, his son Jesse Wight-Crask and his wife Sophia, his stepson Keith McWain, his grandchildren Zoey Crask and James McCarthy, as well as his siblings Robin Zengerle, Teresa Miller, Allan Crask, Patricia Smith, and Tammy Adamson.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Janssen Funeral Home. Those who cannot attend in person are invited to attend via Zoom.
