Geiger Ambus Horton, a devoted family man and a steadfast figure in the residential construction industry, passed away peacefully in Savannah, Georgia, on November 24, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on August 21, 1941, in Jacksonville, Georgia, he spent his life dedicated to hard work and the joy of his family.
Throughout his career in residential construction, Geiger earned a reputation as a reliable and diligent worker. His commitment to quality workmanship touched many lives, as he helped create homes for countless families. He took pride in his craft, reflecting his strong work ethic and dedication.
Geiger was also a proud US Army veteran, embodying the values of service and sacrifice. His military service profoundly shaped his character, instilling in him a sense of discipline and responsibility that he carried throughout his life.
An active member of his community, Geiger attended St. Paul Holiness Baptist Church, where he found solace and fellowship. He valued his faith, leaving a legacy of love and community engagement.
He is survived by his beloved son, Danny (Deanna) Horton of O’Brien, FL; sisters, Patricia Spires and Shirley (Tom) Ashbee, both of McRae; grandchildren, Jessica Belk, Jenna Horton, Lyndsey Browning (Daniel Ferguson); and great-grandchildren, Tyler Sapp, Kaylee Sapp, Brantley Browning, Annalyse Browning, and Colt Ferguson, and brother-in-law, Joe Thompson, along with several nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Shirley Marie Hopkins Horton; parents, Marvin and Neva Edge Horton; children, Selena Wrye and Tony Geiger Horton; grandson, Johnathan Bohannon; and siblings, Ruby Edge, Betty Durden, Mary Ray, George Horton, and Glenn Horton.
Geiger leaves behind a legacy not only in the structures he helped to build, but also in the lives he touched. His commitment to his family and friends will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 28, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Vaughn Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 3:00 PM at St. Paul Holiness Church, 4878 U.S. 441, Jacksonville, GA, with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you bring your favorite memories of Geiger to share with them.
