Genaro Arindaeng Obituary

Genaro Remetira Arindaeng, M.D. July 20, 1929 - April 11, 2013 Genaro Remetira Arindaeng, M.D. was born on July 20, 1929 in Naga City (Bicol) Philippines to Eulogio Arindaeng, a professional agriculturalist and Prudentia Remetira, a lady of Spanish Royalty. Gene went to high school in Naga City, and was president of his high school graduating class of 1949 over 149 students. He attended the "University of the Philippines" for his bachelor degree. He graduated in the first graduating class of 1957 from "Far Eastern Medical School" and received his Doctor of Medicine. He was a professor teaching pharmacology and other medical courses at Far Eastern University Medical School and also was a practicing physician in the Philippines. He then traveled to the United States for further training in Surgery, Internal Medicine, and Emergency Room Medicine and Family Practice. He studied further at Princeton University and was an intern and resident at Princeton University Hospital, Elizabeth Hospital in New York, John Hopkins and Mayo Clinic. He also taught many other future internal medicine students who continued to consult with him from all over the United States. Dr. Arindaeng was one of the most outstanding residents not only at Princeton University Hospital as the most highly respected by the Chief Medical Physicians, but also at every other hospital that he was a resident physician. He had many awards for outstanding service in medicine. Dr. Arindaeng was the head physician of the emergency department at "Metropolitan Hospital" in Detroit, Michigan as well as "Metropolitan Hospital" in Westland, Michigan. Then he went into private practice in "Internal Medicine" and "Family Practice" until 2008 when he retired. Genaro was president of the Filipino Medical Association of America. Gene and his wife Katherine loved to do many things such as travel, dance, and were active in many Filipino activities as well as American activities. Gene did many volunteer medical services, helping the poor. Genaro and Katherine's children are Genaro James Jr and Mario Michael. He was a most devoted husband as well as a very devoted father. He is a most proud grandfather to Jack, Evelyn, Gwendolyn, and Penelope. Gene would put aside everything, even his hobbies, etc. to be in family activities. He was always talking about having a legacy of being able to think and do the right thing. He encouraged them to further their education and most of all, always show an excellent example to everyone. Genaro had been ill since October, 2012, from a stroke, but never complained or made demands for his care. Gene was and is loved by all that knew or met him! He had such a loving and natural affinity to anyone he would meet. He told his family frequently how much he loved them. His children and grandchildren were the best he could possibly have. Most of all, Gene loved the Lord Jesus Christ. He will be deeply missed! From his family ~ We thank you for your love and devotion and friendship. His wife Katherine, Genaro Jr., Mario, Jamie, Elizabeth, Jack, Evelyn, Gwendolyn and Penelope.
