Chester Eugene Coppage, age 93, of Walton, KY, passed away Monday, August 25, 2025, at Magnolia Springs in Florence, KY. He was a retired Construction Superintendent for Taylor Mill Utilities and a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church. Gene loved the outdoors, whether it was traveling all over the U.S. and Canada fishing, driving a golf ball down a fairway, or working in his yard. In his early years, he was a talented basketball and baseball player, and held the career scoring record for an individual basketball player at Simon Kenton High School for many years. He also enjoyed working on puzzles, listening to old country gospel music, and reading his Bible daily. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Chester Joel Coppage and Edna Milford Afterkirk Coppage; wife (of nearly 70 years), Jessie Stephenson Coppage; daughter, Brenda Ann Coppage; grandson, Jason Simpson; son-in-law, Carl Simpson; brothers, Russell, Don, and David Coppage; Aunt, Geneva Gruelle; and good friends, Edgar Fisk and Gary Martin. Survivors include his children, Linda Coppage, Victoria Hale (Jim), Derrick Eugene "Rick" Coppage, and Robert Kevin Coppage; brother, John Coppage; grandchildren, Heather Williams (Adam), Leslie Vuotto (Tony), Lauren Due (Cory), Amanda Candelaria (Peter), Micah Hale (Michelle), Shane Coppage, Ashley Coppage, Leah Bishop (Brent), and Cheston Coppage; and great grandchildren, Brynden Williams, Lyla Williams, Colin Vuotto, Kinley Vuotto, Elle Due, Cole Due, Lucah Candaleria, Lylah Candaleria, Lian Candaleria, Elliott Bishop, Nora Bishop, Benjamin Bishop, and Max Coppage. A graveside service for Gene will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025, at 2 pm at Independence Cemetery, 5358 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051. Memorials are suggested to The Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite, 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
