Gene Newton Dawson

Gene Newton Dawson, 87, of Westminster, passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at the VA Medical Center in Baltimore. He was the loving husband of the late Sandra Thompson Dawson. Gene was born on January 3, 1936 in Cresaptown to the late Clifford Lee and Nola Mae Robinette Dawson. After graduating from Allegheny County High School, Gene enlisted in the U.S. Army in which he served in the 101st Airborne Division and was a member of the "Screaming Eagles". Upon being discharged, Gene then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After proudly serving his country, Gene worked as a forklift operator for Black and Decker in Hampstead for many years, retiring in 1999. Gene is survived by his two daughters, Wendy Lynn Hardesty and husband Scott of Westminster; and Erin Nicole Dawson of Keymar; two grandsons, Joshua and Matthew Hardesty; granddaughter, Jordan Hardesty; and great-grandson, Lucian Hardesty. He leaves two sisters, Ethel Trott of Baltimore and Barbara Rolfs of North Carolina as well as many loving nieces, nephews and other family members. Gene was a member of the American Legion-Post 120 in Taneytown. A long-time "Steelers" fan, Gene enjoyed spending time outdoors and he loved his many critters. In addition to his parents and wife, Gene was predeceased by his siblings Bud Dawson; Sonny Dawson; Austin Dawson; and Mescal Holler. Gene's life will be celebrated at a later date at the American Legion- Post 120 in Taneytown.
