Gene Owen Elswick, 67, of Fremont, Ohio died Sunday, May 10, 2009 at Fremont Memorial Hospital, Fremont, Ohio. He was born on September 6, 1941 in Ironton, Ohio, the son of the late Owen and Opal (Harper) Elswick. On August 17, 1963 he married Sandra Runyon and she survives. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Gene previously worked as a welder at the former Standard Products in Port Clinton as well as the former Riehl Manufacturing in Port Clinton. Most recently he worked maintenance for White Caps Motel in Port Clinton. He enjoyed fishing, playing pool, mowing grass, and especially vegetable gardening as he enjoyed growing tomatoes. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife: Sandra; daughter: Amy Keegan (Danny Ray), Clyde, OH; sons: Gregory (Pam) Elswick, Fremont, OH and Kent James (Crystal) Elswick, Mackon, GA; grandchildren: Nicole Elizabeth, Sean Gregory, Carolyn Jean, Cassandra, Sara Ann, Kyle Kristopher, Devin Scott; brother: Charles (Priscilla) Elswick, Sandusky, OH; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son: Owen Elswick; granddaughter: Mariah Kayli and brothers: Carl Edward Elswick and James LeRoy Elswick. Visitation will be held at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 from 11:00 am until Funeral Services at 1:00 PM with Reverend Roger Rollins officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery with military honors being given by members of Port Clinton VFW Post #2480. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
