Gene Hogan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Houck & Gofus Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc on Dec. 3, 2025.
Eugene "Gene" Hogan, 79, of Pottstown, PA, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2025, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania after courageously facing glioblastoma. He was the devoted husband of Patricia (O'Brien) Hogan, with whom he shared 48 years of marriage and 50 years together.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, on August 8, 1946, Gene was the son of the late Eugene and Clare (Williams) Hogan. He was formerly of the Lawncrest neighborhood in Philadelphia.
Gene attended Cardinal Dougherty High School before enlisting in the United States Navy at the age of 17. He proudly served during the Vietnam era aboard the USS Merrick. Following his honorable discharge in 1967, after four years of dedicated service, he began a 32-year career with PECO. While working full-time, he attended night classes at Immaculata University to obtain his bachelor's degree.
In retirement, Gene worked at JM Cigars in Exton and Light'n Up in Frazer. For him, this was less a job and more an opportunity to enjoy the camaraderie and conversation that came with being a true cigar aficionado. He made many lasting friendships with the owners and staff at the cigar shops he loved.
Gene enjoyed spending time outdoors and tending to his garden, and he found joy in listening to music, reading, and exploring history. Above all, Gene treasured the time he spent with his family. He was an extraordinary husband, father, and "Poppy," and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.
Gene is lovingly remembered by his wife, Patty; his daughters, Rhianna Hogan and Bridget (Jim) Gentile; his grandchildren, Gabrielle, Vivian, and Vincent; and his cousins, Michael (Lisa) Hogan, Mary Ann Hamilton, Joseph Hamilton, and Edward (Elza) Williams. He is also survived by his good smoking buddies, Timothy (Shelley) Cormican and Robert (Madelyn) Stauffer, as well as many friends from Lawncrest in Philadelphia.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, December 15, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Houck & Gofus Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 955 N. Charlotte St., Pottstown, PA 19464. A Life Celebration honoring Gene will follow at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gene's memory may be made to the Glioblastoma Foundation, supporting research and bringing hope to families facing this disease.
