Gene Keyes Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 11, 2025.
In Loving Memory of Gene Francis Keyes Jr.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gene Francis Keyes Jr., a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and beloved son and brother. Gene passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 9, 2025, at the age of 67.
Born to Betty (Deal) Keyes and the late Gene Keyes Sr., Gene lived a life dedicated to service, family, and community. A proud member of both Tri-Towns Rescue Squad and Tri-Towns Volunteer Fire Co. 1, Gene served faithfully for many years, earning life membership and holding the distinguished position of Fire Chief. His commitment to helping others left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of working beside him.
Gene's greatest joy was his family. He shared 40 beautiful years of marriage with his wife, Kathy (Starkey) Keyes, and together they built a strong and loving foundation that will live on through their children: Gloria Green (Chris), Christopher Keyes, Heather Kimble (Johnathon), and Gene Keyes II.
He was a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren who brought endless joy and laughter into his life: Joshua "Caleb" (Vanessa), Deavain, Payton, Brayden, Eva, Gabriella, Penelope Rose, Cameron, Madalyn, and Jamison.
Gene is also survived by his mother, Betty Keyes, and his sisters, Frances Wilson, Katrina (Botond) Szilaj, and brother n law Edward (Karen) Starkey, sister n laws, Ruth (JD) Alkire, Mary Bryan, and Evelyn Lloyd, as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family members, also his life long best friend Jeff McGoye (Liz), and many dear friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service to celebrate Gene's life will be held at Keyser Fire Department, Station 2, on Sunday, November 23, 2025. The time will be announced at a later date.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the community for their support and kindness during this difficult time.
