Gene F. Smith, 71, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2013 in Port Charlotte, FL. He was born Jan. 7, 1942 in Chicago and was a Mundelein resident since 1975. Gene was a loving father, caring friend, flawless drummer, passionate fisherman and was proud to be called a friend to all who knew him. He was a 1960 graduate of Lane Tech High School and was the owner of the Turn On Tackle Company, producing Grandma Muskie Fishing Lures. He enjoyed his corvette and spending summers on Bass Lake in Pentwater, Michigan with family and friends. Surviving are his wife Margaret Domeny; 4 children, Deborah P. Smith of West Allis, WI, Don (Helen) Smith of Antioch, Tom (Janice) Smith of Lisle and Steven G. Smith of Chicago; 14 Grandchildren, Rebecca (Aaron) Wockenfuss, Russell (Valerie) Johnson, Benjamin and Sarah Johnson, Danielle, Grant and Sarah Smith; Zachary, Corryn, Allysa, Santino, Marina, Alaina and Marissa Smith; 2 Great Grandchildren, Kendall Wockenfuss and Jameson Johnson; his sister, Diane (Eugene) Kinser and sons, Brian, Kevin and Chris Kinser and their families and his lifelong friend, Patricia Dostert. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Dorothy Smith, by an infant son, Gene Steven Smith and infant granddaughter, Sarah Anne Johnson. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 11 at the Burnett-Dane Funeral Home Ltd., 120 W. Park Ave. (Route 176, one block west of Milwaukee Ave.), Libertyville. Interment will be at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Elmhurst. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Tidewell Hospice House, 1158 Veronica, St. Port Charlotte, FL 33952, www.tidewell.org.
