Gene Sinclair Thompson

JACKSONVILLE- Gene Sinclair Thompson, 74, of Jacksonville, North Carolina died on February 27, 2023 at Onslow Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 6, 2023 at 3:00 PM at Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville, NC. The family will receive friends and family an hour prior to the service, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM.
Gene was born on October 27, 1948 in Aberdeen, North Carolina to the late Edward "Ned" Gunter Thompson and Shirley Sinclair Thompson.
In addition to his parents, Gene is preceded in death by his wife, Frances L. Thompson.
He is survived by his son, Eric Thompson (Lisa Rayburn) of Jacksonville, NC; granddaughter, Kayla Meade (Kenneth) of Jacksonville, NC; brother, Gary Thompson (Gail) of Atlanta, GA; nephew, Brian Thompson (Elizabeth) and niece, Paige Jackson (Kevin); stepchildren, Joey McLaughlin (Tammy) and RaeAnn McLaughlin (Gary); and several extended family members and friends.
Gene was a loyal and caring husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He took pride in being a business owner and had a sharp eye for artwork and custom sign creation. Gene was a graduate of Appalachian State Unitversity, attending on football scholarship. Upon completing school, Gene taught physical education in the Carolinas for many years. After his time as a P.E. teacher, Gene began his business, Sign Works, designing and creating custom signs for the local area. Gene enjoyed many things in life and was a very outgoing person. He loved Harley Davidson, motorcross, sports, hunting, fishing, and relaxing on the porch with a cigar and good company. The family would like to thank his team of doctors, nurses, caregivers, friends, and family who helped Gene in the recent years. Gene will be greatly missed.
