Gene Weigel, a man who touched the lives of many with his humble demeanor and unwavering faith, passed away peacefully at his home in Dora, Missouri, on March 7, 2024. He was born in Bakersfield, California, on September 12, 1941. He was 82 years, 5 months, and 25 days of age. Gene led a life filled with hard work, love for family, and dedication to his beliefs.

Gene's career as an underground miner, logger, and ice road trucker displayed his strong work ethic and determination. Whether mining gold and silver, cutting down towering California redwood trees, or truck driving in the Yukon, he approached each task with grit and skill. His time in the United States Army during the Vietnam era further exemplified his commitment to serving others.

His family and grandchildren remember him as "Grumpa," a loving grandfather who adored his grandchildren. His special apple pie oatmeal, smoked chicken, and always-ready hot coffee brought warmth and comfort to those around him. Gene's passion for gardening, guns, nature, hunting, and fishing reflected his deep appreciation for the outdoors.

Above all, Gene will be cherished for his role as a protector and spiritual guide. Like a loyal shepherd, he watched over his loved ones with care, and everyone around him always felt safe. He read the Bible daily and loved studying and worshipping at an old schoolhouse on Sundays with his dear friends; Gene shared his profound faith and love for God with all who gathered. Gene never knew a stranger and became a friend to anyone he met.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Eugenia (Keithley) Weigel, and his son, Kenneth Weigel.

Gene is survived by his best friend and very blessed wife, Paula Calcaterra; two children, Tim Weigel of Colville, Washington, and Kimberly Pottberg, with her husband,Charlie, of West Plains, Missouri; beloved little sister, Kimberlie Russell with her husband, David, of Lake Havasu, Arizona; brother, Michael Weigel of La Canada, California; six grandchildren, Samantha Weigel, Nancy Weigel, and Jhonny Weigel all of Colville, Washington, Tiffany Weigel of Alabama, Kathryn Pottberg and Jackie Pottberg of West Plains, Missouri; and two great-grandchildren.

As Gene now rests in the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, let us remember him for the good man he was - a man of integrity, faith, and love. He will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of all who knew him.
