Gene Wetherell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals-West Chapel - North Adams on Oct. 27, 2025.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gene Lawrence Wetherell, of Hancock, MA on October 15, 2025 at home. Known to many as GENO, he was born on January 12th, 1957, a son of Eugene "Mike" and Joan (Field) Wetherell. Geno will be missed and forever loved by his wife and best friend, Erica (Williams) Wetherell; his children- Katelyn "Kate" Wetherell (Hancock, MA), Kyle Wetherell (Alyssa) (Berkshire, MA), and Cole Wetherell (attending U.S. Military Academy at West Point). Geno is survived by four grandchildren- Chloe McBain, Skylar Fenwick, Willow Wetherell, and Sterling Wetherell; Siblings- Karen Wetherell King (John) of Camden-Wyoming, Delaware; Kathleen Wetherell Bradbury (John) of North Adams; Jody Lloyd Wetherell (Kim) of Wesley Chapel, FL; and Kelly Jean Sherman (John) of Hancock. He leaves behind several nieces and nephews, as well as multiple great nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by his Mother-in-Law, Sharon Williams, and all those who became family when he married Erica. He is pre-deceased by a brother, Peter Wetherell, who died in infancy. To know Geno, was to love him. He was so easy to love. He brought a sense of calm to chaos, had the biggest heart, a strong hug and a good word for everyone who crossed his path. He was constantly smiling and had a joke, often inappropriate, ready to make you laugh. Children were drawn to him and he lit up in the presence of children of all ages. Always a kid at heart, he was a kind soul, immediately making those in his presence feel welcome and at ease. Geno was well known for helping anyone who asked, whether it was a electrical issue, a building project, a mechanical problem, a lawn mowed, a field hayed, a lending hand. Geno was there. For Everyone, For Anything, For Everything. Everyone knew they could count on Geno if they needed him. He asked for nothing in return except maybe a cold beer. "Don't cha know" Geno was a gentle, uncomplicated man who found happiness in the simple things like chocolate ice cream, watching TV, morning coffee, going to local baseball games and going out to eat, but he also found absolute joy in the thrill of speed and adrenaline. He enjoyed mountain biking, skiing, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling and racing motorcycles in Loudon, New Hampshire. He made friends who became family where ever he went. Forever a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, NY Mets, Boston Bruins, Old Westerns, and Classic Rock, Geno had an amazing ability to remember and be able to talk about dates, people, actors and locations. He enjoyed history and geography. A graduate of Charles McCann Technical High School, Geno was a Master Electrician by trade. Geno retired from Jiminy Peak as the Buildings & Grounds Manager in 2021. He built lifelong relationships with people and businesses in Berkshire County and beyond. Memorial donations can be made to the Lanesborough Youth Baseball League or the Hancock Fire Department in Geno's name c/o Flynn & Dagnoli Funeral Home. A celebration of Love with be held at Jiminy Peak at JJ's Lodge on November 15th, 2025 at noon. To add to the book of memories, please visit www.flynndagnolifuneralhomes.com
