WENDELL – Gene Edegl Woodard, 83, peacefully passed on from this life and into his eternal rest. He was born in Jackson Co. to the late Alonzo & Cecil Shuler Woodard. Gene worked for the city of Raleigh as a civil engineer for over 40 years. Gene was highly respected and he made a huge impact in his community, caring for and helping others whenever the opportunity presented itself. Gene was an active member of his church, and he embraced a life of love and happiness for all that he knew as family and as dear friends. His memory will be cherished and the impact he made will never be forgotten. Along with his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his loving wife, Corena Dayton Woodard and his brothers, Darrell Woodard and Ronald Woodard.

Graveside service, officiated by Jeff Coombs, will begin at 2:00pm on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, located at 809 W Gannon Ave., Zebulon NC.

Gene is survived by his children, Chuck Woodard (Amy) of Apex, Todd Woodard (Wendy) of Fuquay Varina, Debra Hocutt (Tony) of Archer Lodge, Chad Woodard of Apex, Cindy Alford and Christian Woodard, both of Wendell; his grandchildren, Jackson Woodard, Ethan Woodard, Hayden Hocutt, Haven Woodard and his sister Frances Cloer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Missionary Fund for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or to Miracles in Sight.

Visitation will be from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory, 211 W. Third Stl, Wendell NC.

I worked with Gene at the City of Raleigh ( in the field & office) from May 1988 until he retired. He was very helpful, could make you laugh, and share some funny college stories. He loved his family and enjoyed talking about 57 Chevy...
He will be missed... his spirit will always be with us all that he touched...

Peace and blessings to the family...
