Geneva Meyer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Auble Funeral Home - Orrville on Dec. 28, 2023.
Geneva B. Meyer, age 96, of Orrville, formerly of Wooster, died Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at Maple Terrace in Orrville, following a period of declining health.
Geneva was born on January 18, 1927, in Roanoke, Illinois, to the late Emanuel and Mathilda (Schertz) Ulrich, graduated from Roanoke (Illinois) High School in 1945 and attended Goshen College. She married Vernon Meyer on July 31, 1949, in Roanoke. Vernon died on May 21, 2018.
She worked as a teacher in a one room country school house in Illinois prior to marriage and later taught with her husband in Pulaski, OH. After moving to Wooster, she was a stay-at-home mother until her youngest child started school. She then worked as a nurses aid and eventually as the Social Service Director for Horn Nursing Home in Wooster for 19 years, retiring in 1988.
Geneva was a member of Smithville Mennonite Church where she taught Sunday School, Bible School, and was a member of the Mennonite Women. She enjoyed bird watching, quilting and sewing crafts including stuffed animals. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren held a very special place in her heart, with out of state grandchildren spending weeks of their summer vacations with her. She often shared her faith by reaching out and loving those who needed a friend.
Surviving are five children, Rebecca (Dale) Geiser of Wooster, James (Barbara) Meyer of St. Petersburg, FL, Kathryn (Michael) McKernan of Williamsport, PA, Ruth (Robert) Shetler of Orrville, and Harold (Renee) Meyer of Massillon; 17 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; two siblings, Harold (Lila - dec.) Ulrich of IL and Frank (Cara) Ulrich of Archbold; and a sister-in-law, Frances Ulrich of IL.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Wilfred (Betty) Ulrich, Kenneth (Ruby) Ulrich, Mildred (Leonard) Reeb, and Emanuel Ulrich Jr.
Friends may call on January 6, 2024, at Smithville Mennonite Church, 6097 Akron Road, Smithville, from 9:45 am to 10:45 am.
Services will follow at 11:00 am on January 6, 2024, at the church, with Pastor Todd Martin officiating. Burial will take place at the Smithville Mennonite Church Cemetery.
