Genevieve (Pagnano) Marszalek, 111, passed away peacefully at the Willows in Warren, RI on Sunday, March 23, 2025. She was the wife of Joseph Marszalek from Warren, RI and loving mother of the late Robert "Bobby" Marszalek who passed in 1968.
Born in Bristol on February 27,1914, she was the daughter of the late Senator Pasquale and Frances (Lanzire) Pagnano.
Genevieve was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. She taught Commercial Typewriting and Bookkeeping at Guiteras Junior High School, Bristol for many years and then traveled and lived extensively throughout the US with her husband who was in the FBI. In her retirement, she was one of the first residents at North Farm where she lived for over 50 years. Active right to the end, she was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, The Bristol Historical and Preservation Society, the Barrington Women's Club, the North Farm Bridge Club, Friends of Linden Place, Friends of the George Hale Library, and the AARP. A staple at Bristol House of Pizza, she is believed to have been the oldest Rhode Island resident at the time of her passing.
She is survived by her youngest sister Patricia Pagnano Fojo (wife of the late Frank Fojo Jr.– also originally from Bristol but spent many years in Trinidad, West Indies and now in Florida). She is also survived by her nephews, David Fojo, Mark Fojo (Tracey), Dean Fojo (Trish) and Chris Fojo (Gillian), Scott Martin (Sue), Barry Martin (Gail) and great niece, Michelle Hall Lyons (Michael) as well as many other cousins and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her son: Robert Marszalek; her parents Pasquale and Frances; her older sister Helen and her younger sisters Lucy (wife of Senator Joseph Bruno) and Sylvia Hall; her nephew: Richard Hall; and her niece: Barbara Bruno-Martin
Visiting Hours will be held at Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, RI on Thursday, April 3, 2025 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. Her funeral service will start from Sansone Funeral Home on Friday, April 4, 2025 at 9:30 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol at 10:30 AM. She will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name can be made to the
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
