Gennette was a bright and beautiful soul who was born on August 6, 1960, in Yazoo City, Mississippi. A vibrant and loving daughter to the late Mary Virginia Spires-Braden and Thomas “Kid” Spencer. At two years old Gennette was raised by her sister and brother-in-law, Pearlie Mae Cleveland and Jeff Slater. At an early age, Gennette accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and became a member of St. Paul C.M.E. Church. Later in life, she joined Word of Truth Temple of Jesus Christ, where she continued to grow in her faith and became the Church’s Mother under the Guidance of Pastors Thomas and Kimberly Bulter. She also served as a Prayer Team Vice President, Member of the Missionary and Mother board. As well as an ordained licensed Evangelist. Gennette received her education at Gibbs Elementary and Bentonia High School. She later attended Alcorn State University and began her professional career at Yazoo Industries. She furthered her studies by receiving an associate's degree in early childhood education and started working at United Children and Family, Mt Zion in Detroit, MI. There, she was known for her dedication and strong work ethic. Gennette married Roger Adams on August 6, 1996, and was the proud mother to Tiara (Ben) Eason, TocQuanna, Geneva, Satin Johnson-Adams, Frederick Culver-Adams, and Tyron Lewis-Adams. She was a loving grandmother to her 24 grandchildren. She was a cherished sister to her five brothers: Richard Spencer, Hubert (Earnestine) Spires, Rickey (Kim) Spires, Perry Harrington, and Anthony Terrell (La’Tasha) Ingram. As well as her seven sisters: Pearlie Cleveland (Mother/Sister), Martha Coats, Patricia Braden, Mary (Charles) Perry, Joann Harrington, Nadine Tate, Virginia (Kevin) McDuffie, and Connie (Craig) Penley. She leaves to cherish Barbara Nell Herrion, Syvia Vaughan, and Kimberly Bulter, who will forever treasure her memory and the love she shared with each of them. Gennette loved and valued all her family to include a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family. Gennette was an unforgettable spirit whose light shone brightly in every room she entered. She was a mother to the motherless and a friend to the friendless. She was preceded in death by her sisters: Arlena Berry, Ella Holmes, and Annie Lee Coleman; and her brothers: Albert Hobbs, Roosevelt Hobbs, Robert Braden, Herbert Spires, Thomas Spencer, David Spencer, Willie Spencer, Calvin Spencer, Robert Spencer, and Herman Spencer. She was deeply committed to her faith and her intercessory community. She prayed every weekday for 24 years on the GWAP prayer line under Pastor Francietta Dennis and ministered every Saturday on The Will of God’s Go To Meeting International Prayer Ministry under the leadership of Pastor Elijah Thompson for 18 years. She Co co-hosted ministry Retreats, authoring unpublished books. We’ll miss her infectious smile, warm spirit, and unwavering kindness. Gennette touched the lives of everyone she met. Her legacy of love, compassion, and faith will continue to inspire all who knew her. Rest in peace, your radiance and love will forever echo in our hearts.
