George was born January 2, 1935, in McAllen, Texas to Jesse F Baker and Elizabeth A Baker. He had (3) siblings: Barbara Troyer (deceased), Bill Baker (deceased), and Mike Baker. His childhood was spent in Indiana, and he began working at 14.

He joined the Navy in 1953 and eventually became a flight engineer for the P-3 Orion. In 1955 he met his wife Nancy while on leave in Kokomo, Indiana. They were married in September 1955 at St Joan of Arc Catholic Church. The marriage resulted in 4 children: Jeanne, John (who preceded him in death in 1986), Linda, and Greg. George retired from the Navy in 1972 and began working as a Manager for Krystal Restaurants in Jacksonville, Florida until his retirement.

He had a passion for flying, music (playing organ and guitar), antique clocks, and animals. He became certified as a private pilot and was also a skillful mechanic with the ability to fix anything. After his second retirement he and Nancy established a very successful horse training and boarding facility called Hoofbeat Hollow in Middleburg, Florida. He moved to Elberton, Georgia in 2010 to spend time with family. In Georgia he was able to hone his skills fixing and collecting antique clocks.

He passed away peacefully in his sleep the morning of November 27, 2025. George was a quiet man by nature but well respected. He set a good example for all to follow and will be greatly missed. He was a lifelong Catholic and belonged to St Mary’s Mission Church in Elberton, Georgia

George is survived by his wife Nancy of 70 years and daughters Jeanne Dixon (Tony Dixon), John Baker (deceased), Linda Moore (J.R. Moore) and son Greg Baker (Melissa Baker). He had 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
