George H Bartlett

George Harris Bartlett, a resident of Cape Cod for over 40 years, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026, at the age of 91.

George was born on June 25, 1934, in Newton, Massachusetts, to Irene Elisabeth (Harris) Bartlett and George W. Bartlett. He spent various parts of his youth in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, & New Jersey, where he learned the values of hard work, integrity, and kindness that guided him throughout his life.

He attended Lafayette College in Pennsylvania where he played quarterback on the football team and earned a degree in engineering. After graduating, while starting his working career, George spent time as an officer in the Army Reserves. He went on to work in business management, insurance, real estate, and property management, earning a reputation for dedication and reliability.

In 1953, George married Barbara Bayley. Together, they settled in West Orange, New Jersey, where they began their family before eventually moving to Holden, Massachusetts, around 1960. There, George coached youth baseball and enjoyed attending the sporting events and activities of his 4 children.

In 1975, George married Lillian "Betty" Worby, and together they created a loving blended family. In 1981, George and Betty moved to Cape Cod, where they joined the Federated Church of Hyannis and later became founding members of Mashpee Congregational Church.

George, along with his wife, Betty, enjoyed dining out with friends, traveling, and contributing their time and talents to the many activities of Mashpee Congregational Church. George was also an avid reader, enjoyed puzzles, and closely followed the Red Sox every year. In recent years, he volunteered with the meals-on-wheels program.

George is survived by his son David (Sue) of Montague, MA, daughter Susan of South Dennis, MA, son G. Douglas (Niesje) of Longmont, CO, and son Jeffrey (Christine) of Marshfield, MA; his step-daughters Judith Clark (Robin) of Worcester, MA and Susan Martin (Jack) of South Dennis, MA, and his step-son Scott Dean of San Francisco, CA. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Betty Bartlett (2022) and his sister Nancy Mowry (2003) of Alpine, CA.

A burial service at Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit, Massachusetts, will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Broadreach Hospice in Chatham, MA.
