George Bittrolff Obituary

Mr. George Frederick Bittrolff,  63, of Johnsville, died unexpectedly Sunday, March 29, 2009 at his home. Born April 15, 1945 in Rockaway Beach, NY, he  was the son of the late George F. and Madelyn Marie Kohler Bittrolff.   He was the husband of Nina J. Bittrolff, his  wife of 44 years. Mr. Bittrolff had  served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Glenn W.  Eyler Post American Legion, Woodsboro. He retired from the U.S. Government, Health and Human Services,  Rockville, as a printing specialist in 2005. He was currently working with Advantage Self Storage, Woodsboro. He was a life member of Potomac Falconers  Association, former board member of the Spinal Cord Injury Network, and a former  member of the Montgomery County Chapter of Toastmasters International. He enjoyed auctions, catfishing, falconry,  antiquing and the outdoors. Surviving,  in addition to his wife, are daughter, Lisa Michelle Matthews of Johnsville;  grandsons, Richard Byron Matthews Jr., David George Matthews and Brian Major  Allen Matthews; sister, Madelyn Marie Ray of near Warrenton, VA; mother-in-law,  Nina Crawford of Johnsville; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Helen Minerva  Dailey. The family will receive friends  on his birthday, Wednesday, April 15 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Hartzler Funeral Home,  11802 Liberty Road, Libertytown, with a memorial service to follow at 3  p.m. Rev. Joseph Crawford, of Woodlawn  Baptist Church, will officiate. In lieu  of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ARC of Frederick County, 620A  Research Dr., Frederick, MD 21702.
