George Louis Block, born on December 30, 1925, in
St. Louis, Missouri, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2023, at the age of 97. George lived a beautiful and full life. As a young adult, he served our country as an active Marine in both World War II and the Korean War. Upon returning from the Korean War, he entered the Reserves and began his career with the Communications Worker Union. He was a devoted husband to his wife Mary, and enjoyed music & dancing, playing tennis, and traveling. While raising their three boys, George engaged in sports with his sons and taking family vacations. In his later years, George cherished family gatherings, outdoor activities, and local eateries. He will be forever remembered for his captivating stories, his contagious smile, and his great love that he's passed on to all of those who so dearly loved him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three of his four siblings, his nephew, and his wife Mary, who he was married to for 66 wonderful years. He is survived by his brother Jim, his three children, Michael (Laura) Block, Larry (Mary Ellen) Block, and Jerry (Pricilla) Block, six grandchildren, Megan (Zach) Lhamon, Marissa (Warren) Kalkstein, Ariane Block, Melany Block, Michael Block, and Abby Block, four great-grandchildren, Grace, Caden, Scarlett, and Layla, and twenty nieces and nephews.
The visitation and funeral mass to celebrate George's life will be held at 10:00AM and 11:00AM respectively on Monday, March 6 at St. Clare of Assisi in Ellisville (15642 Clayton Road). The burial, following the mass, will be held at Sacred Heart Cemetery and Mausoleum in Florissant (980 Graham Road). In lieu of flowers, donations to the
