George Russell Britt, age 86, formerly of Stamford, CT passed away Friday, May 27, 2022, in his home in Columbia, South Carolina.
George was the fourth child born to Lelia and Jackson Britt Sr. in Stamford, CT on May 20, 1936. He graduated from Stamford High School in 1954. George served in the United States Marine Corps for 4 years. Upon completion of his service, he attended J. M. Wright Technical School for two years and received a printing trade certification. He put his certification to use and led the printing department at the Norwalk Board of Education Office in Norwalk, CT and retired after 36 years. Once he retired, he relocated his family to Columbia, South Carolina. He then became an active member of Fort Clark Baptist Church in Elgin, SC.
During his retirement, George enjoyed life. He enjoyed fishing, helped raised his grandchildren, and watching his Western Movies. George Britt, Daddy, Russell, and Grandpa will be greatly missed and cherish his love forever.
Preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James T. Britt (SarahMae) and Jackson Britt Jr. (Maggie) and two sisters Phyllis Redden (Walter) and Nancy Britt and nephew Jon Redden.
George is survived by his two sisters, Barbara Truss (Joseph) of Queens New York, Doris McGhee (Richard) of South Carolina; two daughters, Andrea Cole, and Brenda Britt and three stepdaughters, Sandra Lewis, Monica Hobbs, and Yvette Lewis. Also, left to mourn are grandchildren Jason Britt, Kimberly Napaul (Gurvitch), Keith Britt (Martine), Whitney Joseph, Andrea Britt, Sterling Hayward, Brenda P. Britt, and Essence Mack; nieces and nephews Richard A. McGhee, Carol McGhee, Donna McGhee, Nancy Nelson (Roger), Walter Redden, Wendy Redden, James T. Britt, Timothy A. Britt (Mary), David Truss (Rhoda), Jacqueline Britt; twenty-five great-grandchildren, other loving relatives, and friends.
