His Life

George C. Brown was born on October 2, 1936, in Bastrop, Louisiana, and the only child to Elizbeth Bull and Verdie Campbell who preceded him in death.  George attended elementary, middle, and high school in Oakland, California, and attended Oakland Junior College from 1955 to 1957. In 1958 George moved to Los Angeles, California, and began working for the County of Los Angeles having a career spanning 42 years. He also worked 22 years for the Los Angeles City School District.

In 1958 George met the love of his life, Versie Lee Burries. The two were married on June 28, 1959; sharing love, a friendship, and oneness that lasted 62 years. Out of this union, three daughters were born: Rochelle Elise, Regina Lynne, and Rhonda Anne.

In 1960 George was drafted by the United States Army to the 690th Medical Company as a Medical Specialist and Hospital Attendant, serving two years, and was released with an honorable discharge.

George was notoriously known for his sense of humor. A family man, for recreation he would take the family camping and fishing, he loved playing cards (Bid Whiz, Poker, and Spades), and he loved slamming dominos! He coached Little League Baseball and Basketball part-time where he received numerous awards and trophies.
