He was born July 14, 1938 in Philadelphia, PA. George was a member of the Claxton Church of Christ. George graduated from Coalfield High School in 1956 where he played football and basketball. He and others helped organize the Coalfield Little League Football Organization in the late 1960s. George retired from Norfolk Southern Railway Co after 43 years of service. He met Lucy on July 3, 1978 and was blessed with 45 years of marriage, which were the best years of his life.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Lucy Pierce Cagley, parents Elmer Thomas Sr. and Anna Cagley, Sister Kathryn Queener and granddaughter Andrea Haynes.
Survived by brothers Bill (Heidi) Cagley and Tom (Dianna) Cagley. brother-in-law, Steve Queener. Children, Jeffery (Tereasa) Cagley, Tina (Jerry Dale) McGhee, Joe Cagley and Chris Massie, Marianne (AC) Powers, Angela (Ronnie) Campbell, Tracy Parker and Mitchel (Tammy) Parker. Grandchildren, Nick Parker, Matt Parker and Zach Parker, Josh Cagley, Jeri Nicole Manos, Chancy Powers, Blake Farmer, Nequila Watkins, Luke Campbell, Cooper Campbell, and Shelby and Nick Carden.
Great Grandchildren, Crew and Rhett Carden, Owen Parker, Mason and Emma Cagley, Porter and Pressley Manos, Ern and Reagan Powers, Kate and Case Haynes, Wyatt and Brooklyn Brock, Dallas, Easton, and McKinleigh Watkins, Riley and Carter Farmer, and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will hold a visitation in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary on Saturday November 29, 2025 from 12:30pm- 1:30pm with a service at 1:30pm. Graveside at Oak Ridge Memorial Park will follow.
