George R. Carpenter

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of George R. Carpenter, 74, of Bristol, CT. He passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, February 11, 2024 surrounded by his loving family, after his courageous battle with cancer. George was a loving, honest, caring and hard-working man of unwavering Faith and Patriotism and an avid NY Giants fan who touched the lives of many. He lived a life dedicated to serving his faith in Jesus Christ, finding solace and purpose in his devotion to God as a proud born-again Christian.

Born on November 17, 1949 in Portsmouth, NH, George lived a very fulfilling life. As a young man, George enlisted in the US Marine Corps, proudly serving his country for 6 years before being honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal. He went on to become a driver for UPS, a job he loved for many years to follow. George later received his Diploma from Porter and Chester Institute for computer electronics where he graduated at the top of his class with highest honors. Through the years, he most enjoyed being a family man and took immense pride in coaching his sons’ football team, ultimately guiding the team to their 1st place victory while playing for the Saints at Sloper. George was a jack of all trades and could often be found helping family and friends with handyman projects if he wasn’t at home completing his own. As a retiree, George had such a passion for helping others with their home projects, that he took a part-time position with Lowe’s Home Improvement, a job that brought him great joy and purposefulness.

George treasured vacationing with his family in Cape Cod, Maine, Lake George, and New Jersey, to name a few, where together they created countless unforgettable memories to be cherished forever. Many of the trips made some of George’s biggest dreams come true, from parasailing in Lake George, to deep-sea fishing in Florida, and walking the turf at Giants stadium.

George valued the good things in life like tag-saling with his wife on the weekends, watching his grandchildren play sports, reading his bible, enjoying the game of football, and of course his Dunkin Donuts coffee.

Out of all of his accomplishments, George excelled most at being a loving husband, a devoted father, and the world’s best “PopPop” to his grandchildren. He was known for his unwavering work ethic, quick wit, Dad humor and compassionate spirit. George had a knack for making everyone feel welcome and valued and for leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

George’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who offered their support throughout his journey. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched. His legacy of kindness, integrity and love will continue to inspire us all.

George leaves behind his devoted wife of 40 years, Elizabeth A. (Caissie) Carpenter, whom he loved endlessly, 5 sons: George Carpenter Jr. of TN, Robert Tardiff and his wife Tina of Burlington, Alexander Carpenter of Bristol, Joshua Carpenter and his wife Stephanie of Southington, Chadwick Carpenter and his wife Ashley of Southington, 15 cherished grandchildren, and his cat Luca who he adored. He is also survived by his brothers, Ernie Carpenter and wife Linda of Plaistow, NH and John Carpenter and wife Cindy of Exeter, NH, his sister, Janet Littlefield of Middletown and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, June (Boston) and Raymond Littlefield, he was predeceased by his sister, Mya Lombardi.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024 from 4:00pm-6:30pm at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville, CT. A funeral service will be celebrated at 6:30pm at the funeral home. Entombment of ashes with military honors will be held privately at the State Veteran’s Cemetery in Middletown.
