George Wayne Clark was born February 17, 1933, in Berryville, Arkansas to Rex and Mary Kathleen (Basore) Clark. He passed away June 1, 2023, in Bentonville at the age of 90.
Wayne graduated from the University of Arkansas, 1954, with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree. He married Frances Janet West, also from Berryville, in 1955.
Wayne served in the US Air Force from 1955- 1957, worked as a bank examiner and then in banks in Russellville and North Little Rock before becoming President and CEO of the Security Bank (now Regions Bank) in 1975. He lived in Harrison between 1971 to 1991, before moving to Berryville to become CEO and chair of First National Bank of North Arkansas (now Bank of 1889). He retired in 2013 and moved to Rogers in 2016.
Wayne was active in the Arkansas Bankers Association, including the Presidency of the Association in 1994. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Rogers and has been active in the Presbyterian churches and community service organizations wherever he lived, supporting especially those benefitting children.
He enjoyed floating and fishing in the local rivers and lakes, singing in the church choir and researching family genealogy. After retiring he transcribed and published "The Letters and Diaries of Isaac A. Clarke" (Janet's great grandfather).
He is survived by his daughters Frances Clark Gooden and her husband Dave, George Anna Clark; grandchildren Louis Lathrop, Jana Schmitz; great grandchildren Chris McCall, Gabe McCall, Alayna Schmitz, Chandler Lathrop; along with other family members and friends.
Wayne is preceded by his wife Frances Janet (West) Clark; parents Rex and Mary Kathleen (Basore) Clark; brothers Carroll Baker Clark and Herman Thomas (Tommy) Clark.
Wayne will be remembered by family and friends for his kindness, generosity, and the twinkle in his eye. We will miss him dearly.
