George Coyle Obituary

George Coyle, III

Cromwell, CT - It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of George E. Coyle III of Cromwell, CT on Monday, October 20, 2025. George was born on October 12, 1929, and grew up in Southampton, MA with sisters Elizabeth (Stagner), Edith (Colby), and Janice (Emerson). In addition, George, known affectionately as Bud, had many of his relatives nearby in Northampton and Easthampton (Gaylords, Sheldons, and Whiteleys).

George attended Carnegie Mellon University where he received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1951. Immediately after graduation, George enlisted in the USNavy and served in the Navy Air Force during the Korean War (1951-54).

George joined Pratt & Whitney in 1954 and was Commander at an American Legion Post. During his early years at Pratt & Whitney, he and a group of Engineers planned skiing trips, where he met Dorothy Taylor who would be his beloved wife of 50 years until her passing in 2007.

George and Dorothy moved to Cromwell in 1957 where they raised four children: Esther Coyle, George Mike Coyle (Silver Spring, MD), James Coyle (Amston, CT) David Coyle (Derry, New Hampshire). George remained in Cromwell until present day though he spent much of his time at his home in Vermont.

George was a skilled craftsman and completed hundreds of projects big and small for his homes, his neighbors, and family. While always busy, he was generous with his time and expertise and made a positive impact on hundreds of lives. George was an expert fly fisherman, and he hosted many gatherings in Vermont which included bonfires, card games, croquet, puzzles, picnics and swimming in the pond.

George was a wonderful father and husband, and he truly cherished his time with children, grandchildren (6) and great-grandchildren (2).
