George M. Crawford of Galena, Ohio, age 79, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 10 with his family at his side at the Hospice of Central Ohio at The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center.
He was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on May 10,1945 to George and Cecila Crawford. He was married to the love of his life, Arminda for 56 years. He retired from Lucent Technologies after 35 years of service and then served his community as a volunteer driver for Chalmers P. Wylie Veterans Outpatient Clinic. He was a proud member of St. Paul Catholic Church for 52 years and a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus.
He served as an officer for the Catholic War Veterans at the post, state, and national level. He had a great love for his family and country and served both in the Army and Air Force. George loved watching all his grandchildren participate in all of their favorite activities.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Mickey, sister Mary Lodato, and grandson Charlie. He is survived by his wife Arminda (Armi), daughters Theresa DeMatteo (Sam) and Emily Bliss (Jamie), sons Matt (Claudia), Mark (Caroline), Chuck (Carla), Stephen (Mandy) and David (Whitney), and 15 grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 15, from 4:00 8:000 p.m. at Moreland Funeral Home, 55 E Schrock Road in Westerville, Ohio. The Rosary will start at 3:50 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Westerville, Ohio on Wednesday, October 16 at 10:30 a.m. with internment in Resurrection Cemetery with military honors.
The Crawford family extends their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses and aides at The James Cancer Hospital and Hospice of Central Ohio for their compassionate care.
