George Davis Obituary

George C. Davis
Winchester - George C. Davis, 88, of Jacksonville, IL passed away peacefully Sunday morning December 28, 2025 at the Scott County Nursing Center in Winchester. He was born July 30, 1937 in Brooklyn, New York the son of George M. and Margaret Reiss Davis.
George studied at Albany State Teachers College. He received his Master Degree in Mathematics from the University of Albany. He taught High School Math at Windham Ashland Jewett Central School in Windham, New York, retiring in 1993. George loved teaching and was so loved by his students. After retirement, he did volunteer work for his community of Ashland, NY. He worked with the Ashland NY Ambulance service, delivered meals to shut ins, and was the county assessor for Greene County, New York for a term. He was a member of the Ashland United Methodist Church in Ashland New York for many years and loved his church community in the Catskill Mountains.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife Patricia Hoskins Davis. He later married Elizabeth "Libby" Megehe, and they celebrated 20 years of marriage. They enjoyed summers in New York, January and February on the Florida gulf coast and the rest of the year in Illinois. They loved traveling and were fortunate to have traveled to China for their honeymoon and then later to Egypt. Together they were members of the Winchester United Methodist Church. They both were so very lucky to have that second chance at love.
Surviving is his wife Elizabeth "Libby" Davis at home, her children Steve (Becky) Woodworth of Winchester, Joni (Eric) Rammelkamp of Jacksonville, Andy Woodworth (Gabriel Salgado of Roseville, CA, grandchildren Amanda and Kimberly Woodworth, Kelsey (Josh) Lloyd, Katie Rammelkamp, great grandson Maxwell Lloyd, his son Robert (Linda) Davis, grandsons Nicholas Davis and Thomas Davis, all of Colonie, New York.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11 am Tuesday January 13, 2026 at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester. Visitation with the family will be from 10 am until the time of the service at the funeral home. Private family committal will be held at a later date. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the Scott County Nursing Center.
